In Frelsesarmeens new headquarters at Ensjø in Oslo, a new building has been added to their existing one from 1977, with an add-on from 2007. Our main challenge was to connect the old and the new building, making the transition between the buildings appear seamless. We had to account for differences in floor height, varying ceilings and materials. The result from an extensive project period is an interior where you can pass between the old and the new building without even noticing they were built as separate entities.
We moved the entrance from the old building to the new one, creating an open and inviting space when you enter Frelsesarmeen.
Next to the new, red staircase is the transition from the old to new building, now just a well flowing entrance and café. The staircase in Frelsesarmeens iconic colour serves as a literal red thread through the floors, and makes way-finding easy for visitors.
We designed several office floors complete with a variation of separate and shared offices, kitchens and meeting rooms enhancing the functionality and aesthetic of the work spaces.
The downstairs café has a selection of refurbished second hand lounge furniture, adding comfort and warmth to the newly renovated space.
