Petrol Station – Hydro Texaco (1997)
Odd Thorsen AS won the commission for a new design concept for Hydro Texaco’s fuel and service stations, in collaboration with Graphic Design firm, Anisdahl, Sand & Partners. The project comprised a new concept and profile for fuel and service stations and was applied on 400 existing stations in Norway and Denmark. One important factor was to make the stations less gleary and with less visual impact, differentiating between different surroundings/environments.
In addition to the concept for the building and fuel-pump roof, we developed the main signal mast, lightposts, barricades, flag posts, sinage system and service units.
“Ferskt & nylaget” was developed in 2002 and means “Fresh & newly made”, this is Hydro Texacos fresh food concept. We were responsible for the design development which included a fully integrated kitchen, a large display for the food products, graphic design and clothing. “Ferskt & nylaget” has received the Norwegian Design Councils Award for Design Eccellence.
In the book ‘How to Design a Successful Petrol Station’ (2000), the author Marcello Minale wrote a whole chapter about this new concept.
