Odd Thorsen A/S is a Design Studio based in Oslo, Norway. We work within a large range of scales, including faucets, kitchen sinks, public transportation systems and architectural building components. We also develop Design Manuals for projects where industrial design, architecture and graphic design come together to create an integrated visual expression.
We work with different types of clients, and maintain long standing working relationships with them. Odd Thorsen AS’ success is based on a consistent working methodology and timeless design. Clients benefit from the expertise of an established office combined with the innovative approach of the younger generation.
We have a small core team, which is listed below. Although, when we work on larger projects, we hire specifically skilled freelancers or work with other companies of different disciplines.
We have cooperated with many clients, small and large, in both the private and public sector, organizations and manufacturing companies. All projects are different and are planned and performed under different budgets and with different tools. The diagram shows the general structure of most projects that we are engaged in, however every project has different emphasis on different phases.
From the first contact with a client, we will contribute to a process that ensures a result based on well-founded decisions. Market research, concept sketches, 3D-CAD models, mock-ups, user involvement, visual models and testing of functional prototypes are all important tools on the way to final products.
In addition to projects where we develop a single product or a family of products, we also have long experience in larger projects where different design disciplines work together, demanding a holistic solution in the planning and design development. To develop the larger projects into a unified and comprehensive solution with sufficient credibility, a systematic work methodology is needed, that ensures a good overview and functional, constructive and aesthetic order in the diversity of our surroundings.
Odd Thorsen founded the Design Studio “Odd Thorsen A/S” in the early 1980′s. During his career the studio was involved in many great projects like train design for Norwegian Railways Systems (NSB), the design program for Oslo’s Public Transportation System, the 1994 Winter Olympics at Lillehammer, Oslo’s Airport Express Train and the Norwegian Pavilion at Expo 2000. The studio has always had a small core staff and is now run by Odds son, Halvor Thorsen. We continue to maintain the values of the past with an eye toward the future.
